Event Description

At this event we'll get to know the Museum and Winery of one of the most important wine brands: José Maria da Fonseca.

The tour begins in the Museum Room with a brief explanation of the company's history. After a walk through the garden, we visit the wineries: Adega da Mata, where Periquita wine is matured, and Adega dos Teares Velhos, where the oldest muscatels in the house are stored, and finally the wine tasting.

José Maria da Fonseca:

A family business with almost two centuries of history that, without ever resting on its laurels, has been able to modernise. José Maria da Fonseca has been making wine since 1834, the result of the shared passion of a family that has been able to preserve and project the memory and prestige of its founder. Aware of the responsibility of being the oldest producer of table wine and Moscatel de Setúbal in Portugal, José Maria da Fonseca follows a philosophy of permanent development, which leads it to invest more and more in research and production, combining the most modern techniques with traditional knowledge. An example of this is the José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes winery in Reguengos de Monsaraz, in the Alentejo, where the Roman tradition of fermenting in clay pots is maintained alongside the latest technology.

By continuing to invest in internationally renowned products, always characterised by quality, José Maria da Fonseca has made a decisive contribution to the dissemination and prestige of Portuguese wines. The almost 650 hectares of vineyards and a winery equipped with state-of-the-art technology that rivals the best in the world produce wines that combine the experience accumulated throughout its history with the most advanced winemaking techniques.

In addition to all these resources used in the production of its wines, what most characterises the work at José Maria da Fonseca is an enormous passion for the art of making wine. It is this passion, which generates emotions, that José Maria da Fonseca shares with consumers every time they taste one of its wines.

Walking:

After the visit, we'll go for our usual walk in the surrounding area, passing through Vila Nogueira de Azeitão and its Pasmados Fountain, among other places of interest, as well as the famous “Tortas de Azeitão” (Azeitão Pies) and a route through the Serra area, with wide views of the Rasca Valley and the Serra da Arrábida.
